Now it’s time for a short summary of some splendid rarities found during the lockdown, that certainly deserve a spot on this page but weren’t posted earlier to avoid gatherings. Belgium’s 9th BLYTH’S PIPIT (Anthus godlewskii) was present in Drongen (Province of Eastern Flanders) from the 24th of March until the 6th of April, discovered by Geert Spanoghe. Brussel’s PYGMY CORMORANT (Microcarbo pygmaeus) started wandering around again just like last spring, and turned up at several locations in the Province of Antwerp mid-April. An incredibly obliging BLACK-WINGED KITE (Elanus caeruleus) was beautifully photographed by Alain De Broyer in Beauraing (Province of Namur) on the 7th of April. On the 21st of April a singing male CIRL BUNTING (Emberiza cirlus) was present in Zedelgem (Province of Western Flanders), discovered by Geert Carette, the 46th record for Belgium but only the 12th for Flanders. On the 26th of April Davy Bosman bumped into a stunning male CITRINE WAGTAIL (Motacilla citreola) in Oudenburg (Province of Western Flanders), only the 17th for Belgium. Davy also found a BROAD-BILLED SANDPIPER (Calidris falcinellus) in Oudenburg on the 8th of May, still present the next day. The first since 2016 (!) and only the 31st record in total.
